The incoming PHEV model will accompany existing petrol, diesel and series hybrid variants, rounding out the Tank 300 line-up with what is likely the most desirable of all trims, based on Australia’s growing appetite for plug-in power.
According to the official announcement, the Tank 300 Hi4-T will use the same powertrain as its larger Tank 500 Hi4-T stablemate, although battery size and engine output figures have not yet been confirmed.
It can safely be assumed that the powertrain, which is made up of a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, electric motor and nine-speed automatic transmission, will produce the same combined 300kW/750Nm.
This will, if power remains unchanged, equate to impressive performance with the Tank 500 PHEV able to hit triple figures in 6.9 seconds despite being a significantly larger vehicle.
While the electric-only range figure has not yet been provided, the larger Tank 500 variant offers an EV range of 120km and total combined range of 950km, so it’s safe to assume the smaller, slightly lighter Tank 300 PHEV could top those numbers.
Of course, that’s dependent on whether it will score the same 37.1kWh battery as its large SUV sibling.
The Tank 300 Hi4-T features all the same off-road goodies as other model variants, with a low-range transfer case and electronically locking differentials front and rear, but off-road figures like ground clearance, approach and departure angles are yet to be outlined by the brand.
What GWM has confirmed, though, is that the Hi4-T will offer a braked towing capacity of 3000kg and will feature vehicle-to-load meaning it will be able to provide power to external equipment like tools or camping accessories using the on-board battery.
While pricing is yet to be confirmed, the larger Tank 500 Hi4-T PHEV goes for $79,990 driveaway, representing a $6000 jump over the standard hybrid variant.
This means the Tank 300 Hi4-T is likely to land around $6000 more than the Tank 300 Ultra HEV that is now available for $56,990 driveaway – suggesting a drive-away price in the low $60k range.
GWM has confirmed that the model’s finalised specifications and pricing will be revealed in early 2026, but the automaker is currently taking expressions of interest on its official website. ![]() Read more9th of October 2025 ![]() Seven new GWM models for Australia in 2026All GWM sub-brands to receive attention in 2026 with new models, powertrains comingAll future modelsMotor industry news |
