New models - BMW - i4BMW i4 line-up pared back to single variantExtra kit, higher price for updated single-variant BMW i4 BEV offering in Australia10 Oct 2025 BMW has cut its popular battery electric 4 Series range to just one variant for its 2026 model year update, with only the base-spec i4 eDrive35 arriving before the end of this year for the slightly higher price of $88,900 before on-road costs and options.
The i4 Gran Coupe has proven to be BMW's most popular electric model globally, but the mid-spec i4 eDrive40 and flagship i4 M50 will no longer be available in Australia from the end of this year.
A likely reason for BMW's electric range rationalisation is the fact that of the 3340 i4s the brand has sold in Australia since the model’s introduction in 2022, the base-spec eDrive35 has made up more than 75 per cent of that volume with 2523 sales so far – despite debuting in Q4 of 2023.
BMW Australia also axed the combustion-powered 4 Series Gran Coupe range at the end of last year, with a plan to focus on the BEV models, meaning the eDrive35 will soon be the only four-door 4 Series on offer locally.
The single i4 variant will be priced from $88,900 when it arrives later this year, an increase of around $1100 over its predecessor, enabling it to continue below the Luxury Car Tax threshold of $91,387 for ‘fuel-efficient’ vehicles.
For the extra money the base model scores some upstream inclusions, like the M Sport package, which adds a more aggressive front apron, side skirts, rear diffuser and 18-inch M-branded alloy wheels.
The revised model also scores a redesigned grille and headlights, and on the technology front it receives tyre pressure monitoring and park assist systems as standard.
Inside, the eDrive 35 gets a new flat-bottomed M leather steering wheel with 12-o'clock marker, heated front seats and a new electric glass sunroof as standard.
BMW also outlined that the new i4 eDrive35 will feature silicon carbide semiconductor components that are said to reduce energy consumption by 4.5 per cent, increasing range from 430km to 448km.
The new model will feature the same 66.4kWh battery as before, which feeds a 210kW/400Nm rear-mounted electric motor capable of propelling the four-door coupe to 100km/h in a claimed six seconds.
Value on paper appears up, but the i4 eDrive35 is up against a host of less-expensive four-door electric rivals like the Tesla Model 3 (from $54,900 + ORC), BYD Seal (from $46,990 + ORC) and Polestar 4 (from $79,000 + ORC), which offer comparative levels of equipment and performance.
The i4 eDrive35 will arrive in showrooms by the end of the year, as BMW aims to capitalise on the base model's sales success in recent years.a ![]() Read more26th of September 2025 ![]() BMW iX5 Hydrogen set for 2028 launchFollowing successful testing of a pilot fleet the iX5 Hydrogen is green-lit for productionAll new models![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Motor industry news |
