Rugged Overtrail arrives in updated Lexus LX line-up

More choices in 13-variant MY26 Lexus LX range, now from $158,700 plus on-road costs

16 May 2025

FLOWING from a MY25 update, Lexus has expanded its flagship LX upper large SUV line-up to 13 variants with a pair of ruggedised Overtrail models in LX500 diesel and LX600 petrol complementing a series of other upgrades range wide with pricing from $158,700 - $220,950 excluding on-road costs.

Competitors may include the likes of the new GMC Yukon Denali from $174,990, the Mercedes-Benz GLS from $184,900 and the BMW X7 from $171,300 all excluding on-road costs.

Most top-end SUVs have a luxury skew and do not match the Overtrail in terms of off-road readiness, with Lexus stating, “the Overtrail offers LX customers more choice as it fully realises the off-road potential of the LX platform, redefining the concept of five-star adventure”.

It arrives after customer feedback that informed its specification with the model building on the generously specified LX Luxury with Enhancement Pack variant.

The new, five seaters bolster the LX’s “extreme” capability by adding front and rear locking differentials, specific 18-inch matte grey alloy wheels, and high-profile Toyo Open Country all-terrain tyres, all designed to increase grip in all off-road conditions.

Setting it apart visually are a black radiator grille, front and rear bumpers, door handles, wheel arches, outer mirrors and door window mouldings, while inside the model features premium leather-accented seats with Monolith colour scheme and Sumi Ash black ornamentation.

Motive power across the LX500 and LX600 range is from a choice of two powerful twin-turbocharged V6 engines – the 3.3-litre LX 500d diesel with 227kW and 700Nm lifted from Toyota’s Landcruiser 300 Series donor vehicle, and the 3.5-litre LX 600 petrol making 305kW and 650Nm shared in various states of tune with the Lexus GX 550, Toyota Tundra and other overseas Toyota models.

Each engine is mated to the same “intelligent” 10-speed automatic transmission again lifted from Toyota’s Landcruiser 300 Series (and Tundra, GX550), driving all four wheels through a full-time four-wheel-drive system with low-range gearing and a 3500kg braked towing capacity.

Lexus didn’t stop at the Overtrail implementing range wide MY25 LX improvements for greater comfort adding more features, off-road performance and safety with a suite of enhancements to the third generation of the big SUV that was introduced locally back in 1998.

The LX line-up opens with the seven-seat Luxury grade, now adding more comfort and convenience features and improved active safety.

The premium Japanese manufacturer said, “Lexus Safety Sense+ is expanded to now detect motorcycles in the day and bicyclists in the day and night, provide autonomous emergency braking when crossing intersections, and acceleration suppression at low speeds”.

Other new safety features standard across the range include safe exit assist, emergency driving stop system and a driver monitor camera.

A larger and fully digital 12.3-inch multi-information display replaces the previous 8.0-inch version across all MY25 LX grades, while wireless Android Auto joining wireless Apple CarPlay and an additional USB-C port (six in total) improve connectivity.

From a tactile perspective, the new model sees the introduction of soft close doors and a centre console cool box range wide adds to convenience.

If the Luxury grade is insufficient an Enhancement Pack is optionally available packaging 22-inch alloy wheels, moon roof and hands-free kick sensor for the powered tailgate.

Building on the Luxury grade with Enhancement Pack are the more opulent LX Sports Luxury and dynamic LX F Sport grades that gain new features including driver and front passenger massaging seats and four-way adjustable headrests.

The LX Sports Luxury is available in both five- and seven-seat configurations with the choice of diesel and petrol power, while LX F Sport is offered exclusively with five seats again in petrol and diesel.

The line-up tops out with the four seat LX600 Ultra Luxury flagship, featuring two VIP-style individual rear seats with 48-degree recline, exclusive quilting, massage function and a rear centre console with seat and audio controls.

The top model further adds a front wireless smartphone charger to match the existing charger in the rear, and is offered exclusively in LX600 petrol format.

Lexus offers the MY25 LX in even exterior colours including new Moon Desert exclusively to Overtrail.
