Volvo updates popular XC60 SUV range

Improved tech, comfort, and design for refreshed Volvo XC60 line-up, prices up by $1000

23 Jun 2025

VOLVO has updated its popular XC60 SUV range with a refreshed design, improved technology and connectivity, and an increase in comfort levels.

Now available from $74,990 plus on-road costs, we find petrol-powered models increasing by $1000 while the pricing of plug-in hybrid variants remain unchanged.

Externally, the four-variant XC60 range brings a more contemporary look with a revised frontal air intake reminiscent of the larger updated XC90, new alloy wheel options, and darkened tail-lights. New paint colours are also offered including Aurora Silver, Forest Lake, and Mulberry Red.

Moving inside, we find freshened décor, updated garnishing, and new, premium upholstery options, including Quilted Nordico. New cupholders and an improved wireless device charging pad feature on the centre console, which further offers a flexible storage compartment.

Without specifying how it is achieved, Volvo Cars says the cabin of the XC60 is now quieter than before, while further offering optional air suspension, air purification technology, and more comfortable seats.

Additional standard feature highlights include power adjustable front seats with memory functionality, integrated rear seat child boosters, a Crystal gear lever selector, head-up display, 360-degree camera system, blind spot monitoring, and Thor’s Hammer LED headlights.

Central to the vehicle’s infotainment improvements is a new-generation 11.2-inch touchscreen array Volvo says is designed to offer a safe and enjoyable way to interact with the car’s various systems. It is said to be more focused and personalised than its predecessor, with a 21 per cent increase in pixel density when compared with its predecessor.

The new system further offers a range of Google built-in services that may be applied retrospectively via over-the-air updates to XC60 models built as early as 2020.

Optional harman/kardon or Bowers & Wilkins sound systems remain available depending on grade.

Powertrain options continue to include a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with mild hybrid assistance and an eight-speed automatic transmission or the same with additional permanent synchronous magnetic electric motor on Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) variants. All variants are all-wheel drive.

“(The XC60) has a cutting-edge user experience, a modernised Scandinavian design with improved comfort, and an even more luxurious interior,” said Volvo Car Australia managing director Stephen Connor.

“The improvements focus on what we believe matters most to our customers. With all the upgrades I believe it provides an even more enjoyable and exclusive experience, with the car set to get better over time thanks to over-the-air updates.”

The Volvo XC60 competes within the bustling Medium SUV over $60K segment where is vies against the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and Porsche Macan to name but a few.

VFACTS year-to-date pricing data shows Volvo has sold 724 examples of the XC60 to the end of May, down 21.5 per cent on the same time last year.

The figure places the XC60 behind segment leaders including the Lexus NX (2427 unit sales), Mazda CX-60 (2343), and Kia EV5 (2212), and direct rivals like the Audi Q5 (1436), BMW X3 (1947), and Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class (1713).
