News - BYDBYD celebrates 60K sales in AustraliaChinese importer notches up its 60,000th Aussie sale, forecasts 40,000 sales in 202518 Jul 2025 By MATT BROGAN FOLLOWING its record fifth-place finish on the Australian new car sales chart in June, Chinese importer BYD has announced the sale of its 60,000th vehicle.
The milestone was marked with BYD chairman and president Wang Chuanfu personally presenting the 60,000th vehicle to an Australian customer during a special handover ceremony at the importer’s Waverley dealership in Victoria.
BYD says the surge in demand for its vehicles follows a record-breaking first half of the year, with June 2025 setting a new high watermark of 8156 monthly deliveries, equivalent to 368 per cent year-on-year growth.
“For BYD, 60,000 (unit sales) represents 60,000 families and individuals helping drive the transition to cleaner transport,” said Mr Chuanfu.
“Australia is a key market for the BYD brand. It’s a highly competitive, advanced automotive market with an educated customer that values innovation, safety, and sustainability.
“Success here is a signal to the world that BYD vehicles can meet and exceed the expectations of mature markets. The learnings we gain from Australia help shape our products and approach globally.”
As the transition to a fully factory-backed operation in Australia is finalised, Mr Chuanfu acknowledged the crucial role EVDirect has played in the brand’s Australian success.
“Our success in Australia would not have been possible without the strong partnership and commitment of EVDirect,” he added.
“We are proud of what we have achieved together and look forward to continuing this successful collaboration as we enter the next phase of growth.”
