MG clears old plate stock

A grand in the hand for MY24 MG buyers in Australia, while stocks last

2 May 2025

THE end of the financial year (EOFY) is nigh and the gloves are coming off early, exemplified in MG Motor’s decision to announce a $1000 “factory bonus” on all MY24 plated models until stocks last.

MG is remaining schtum as to how many vehicles are available, saying only the incentive applies “from the compact MG3 through to the family friendly mid-sized HS SUV”.

As a guide, the newly added entry level MG3 1.5 Vibe currently lists from $21,990 drive-away (for MY25 plated cars) and the HS lists from $33,990 drive-away for the 1.5 Vibe FWD again for MY25 cars, not MY24.

In addition to a rash of new models, MG Motor extensively use a range of incentives to attain market share and fend off Chinese rivals GWM, BYD and Chery with more competitors down the pipeline and other non- Chinese makes cross-shopped with MG vehicles all vying for either a foothold or greater market share.

Last year, MG Motor as slashed the price of its electric MG 4 small hatch seven times with various offers including cashback incentives, yielding savings in excess of $10,000 for those who bought at the right time.

Trawling back through 2024 we find numerous other examples of MG’s aggressive incentivising activity that includes lower (drive-away) pricing, generous 10-year warranty provisions, additional models and a free charging hub for electric models.

It has facilitated MG’s rise up the sales charts to eighth position as at the end of March 2025 with a 3.9 per cent slice of the overall new vehicle pie. The result places MG Motor 0.1 per cent behind GWM (4.0 per cent shre) with all the remaining top ten brands apart from Ford based in Japan or South Korea.

EOFY sales are a blunt tool used by many overstocked brands to clear old stock and make way for new metal while concurrently providing an added incentive to bargain hunting buyers not concerned with buying old build date vehicles.

The practice is applied in a number of ways including on “select” models, straight off the ticket price and like MG, via a factory bonus.

MG Motor Australia chief executive officer Peter Ciao commented: “It is exciting to announce our EOFY 25 sale for Australian motorists. This is a great opportunity to get behind the wheel of a new vehicle with our $1000 factory bonus across MY24 stock. This is a perfect time to test drive and take home a new car before the end of the financial year.”

All MG cars are backed by a 10-year/250,000km warranty and a network of nearly 100 dealerships around Australia.
