News - NissanAustralian Made status for Nissan casting plantCoveted green and gold kangaroo mark to feature on cast aluminium components, towbars20 May 2025 By MATT BROGAN THE Nissan Casting Australia Plant (NCAP) has achieved official Australian Made status, the coveted green and gold kangaroo mark now applied to every towbar, and all high- and low-pressure aluminium casting products manufactured at the South Dandenong facility.
In operation since 1982, the Nissan Casting Australia Plant is responsible for producing 25 die-cast aluminium components and six different tow bars for use in domestic and international markets.
Nissan says the facility has evolved with the industry’s transition to zero- and low-emission vehicles, from producing componentry primarily for internal combustion (ICE) powered vehicles to “advancing its operations to the manufacture of electric and e-Power hybrid powertrain components”.
NCAP produces and exports more than 1.2 million components per annum and is the sole supplier of some 40 different components used in the production of models including the Leaf, Patrol, and X-Trail, as well as those for electric motors used in e-Power hybrid powertrains across the globe.
Employing 192 staff, NCAP is a success story for the Australian automotive manufacturing space, and one of the few of its scale remaining since the cessation of local vehicle production late last decade.
NCAP staff take pride in the fact that their work will feature in a range of vehicles – including the new-generation (Y63-series) Patrol that sports an Australian-made differential housing on every vehicle sold.
The Patrol will be sold not only in Australia and New Zealand, but in dozens of markets around the work, including Africa, Cambodia, Canada, Egypt, the Middle East, and the United States of America.
Nissan Oceania managing director Andrew Humberstone says components produced at NCAP will now proudly wear the Australian Made logo, serving as a symbol of the product’s Australian authenticity and expertise.
“The Nissan Casting Australia Plant is a true local automotive manufacturing success story, and it’s one we’re incredibly proud of,” he said.
“Earning official Australian Made certification is recognition of the team’s hard work over a long period time in producing world-class componentry that appears in Nissan vehicles around the world.
“For many years, the Nissan Casting Australia Plant team has included something of an Easter egg on each of its components sent overseas, a distinctive kangaroo insignia.
“Following the official Australian Made certification, it’s exciting to see the kangaroo take on a new and globally recognised life of its own with the Australian Made logo embedded for the world to see.”
Australia Made chief executive Ben Lazzaro said it was "great to see Nissan Casting Plant Australia strengthen its commitment to local manufacturing and begin stamping their aluminium castings and towbars with the iconic kangaroo”.
“There is a growing demand for Australian products, with country-of-origin increasingly influencing purchasing decisions.
“As we know, Aussie products are manufactured to some of the highest standards in the world, making them trusted and known for their safety and quality.
“For more than 35 years, the trusted green and gold kangaroo logo has helped thousands of brands communicate their Australian credentials to consumers, businesses and all levels of government and it’s a great achievement for a company to join this esteemed group.” ![]() Read more20th of May 2025 ![]() Nissan Pathfinder faces the axeUS tariffs, high exchange rates may see Pathfinder discontinued, says Nissan Oceania MD20th of May 2025 ![]() Navara PHEV, Ariya BEV, new Patrol inboundUp to seven new models expected to join Nissan Australia’s portfolio before 202719th of May 2025 ![]() 2025 Nissan Qashqai E-Power N-Design ReviewBig on style, big on range, but big on price – the Qashqai E-Power almost makes the grade |
