Future models - Nissan - MicraAll-electric sixth-gen Nissan Micra revealedNissan unveils new-gen Micra, which is now a cute electric hatch with 408km of range23 May 2025 NISSAN has unveiled its sixth-generation Micra model, set to launch later this year, ushering in an electric future for the 40-year-old nameplate.
The popular light car, which was discontinued in Australia back in 2016, boasts aesthetic features reminiscent of its predecessors but is underpinned by the same Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance AmpR platform as the Renault 5.
Its silhouette is almost identical to that of the retro Renault, suggesting the two models are likely twins – or at least siblings that finish each others’ sentences.
The Micra is technically a five-door hatch, but resembles a crossover, with Nissan referring to its design as “SUV-like”.
In other words, it offers the profile of an SUV while retaining the compact footprint of a small hatch, with Nissan outlining that it is less than four metres long, less than 1.8 metres wide and has a wheelbase of 2.54 metres – with the wheels pushed right out to the corners to maximise cabin space.
While Australia never got the sleek fifth-generation Micra, the fourth-generation runner had similar round lights to the new model and the fun, bubbly visuals clearly honour past generations.
Those round headlights also “greet the driver” upon unlocking the car, performing what Nissan calls a "choreographed welcome wink”, while at the rear a similar round design has been adopted – paying homage to previous models while also differentiating it from the Renault 5.
Powering the new Micra will be a single motor driving the front wheels, but there will be a choice of either a 40kWh or 52kWh battery.
The 40kWh option offers power outputs of 90kW/225Nm and a claimed range of 310km, while the larger 52kWh option ups outputs to 110kW/245Nm and range is bumped to 408km.
Micra models will be capable of 100kW DC fast charging, allowing for a 15 to 80 per cent charge time of around 30 minutes, as well as scoring vehicle-to-load (V2L) as standard.
Acceleration figures have not yet been provided but, at just 1400kg with the smaller battery, the Micra is a lightweight in the electric vehicle world and is likely to offer decent performance – undercutting competitors like the MG4 (1635kg), Smart #1 (1800kg) and BYD Dolphin (1506kg).
Nissan says the new Micra has been engineered to provide performance that “goes above and beyond previous generations”, highlighting the independent front and multi-link rear suspension.
New Micra models all come standard with a full suite of ADAS features, including Nissan’s highway-focused ProPilot assist adaptive cruise system.
The Micra is the latest in Nissan’s electric offensive in Europe, one of the four zero-emission models the company plans to release by 2027, which also include a new Leaf, Juke and an undisclosed A-Segment (light car) model.
Nissan’s all-new Micra will be available later this year in Europe, however the brand has not outlined Australian launch details. ![]() Read more20th of May 2025 ![]() Australian Made status for Nissan casting plantCoveted green and gold kangaroo mark to feature on cast aluminium components, towbarsAll future models![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Motor industry news |
