BMW shrinks XM line-up to hi-spec Label

Top-spec Label becomes sole variant in revised BMW XM range with 'no cost' options

12 Jun 2025

BMW’s large XM plug-in hybrid performance SUV is now available in a revised, single high-spec Label grade priced from $309,900 excluding on-road costs and arriving in Q4 this year.

In a radical marketing change for BMW, a number of customer-selectable options are now listed as “no cost”.

The big Bimmer boasts a monumental powertrain output of 550kW and 1000Nm, the same as the previous top-spec XM, bringing together a high-revving 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 with a peak output of 430kW and an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission that delivers 145kW.

In addition to being the first electrified M car – followed by the M5 which packs a similar drivetrain – the XM was also the first standalone model developed by M division since the venerable BMW M1 of 1978 and in top trim is BMW’s most powerful road car to date.

Despite weighing 2785kg, the XM Label is capable of clocking a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.8 seconds with a v-max of 290km/h.

Its only direct competition is Porsche’s Cayenne Turbo 4.0 E-Hybrid wagon that lists from $297,600 + ORC, with a coupe variant adding $10K and the temptation of an options list that can add much, much more to the total.

The highly specified XM is equipped as standard with a new exterior finish and is available with upholstery selections and wheel designs. It has on-board AC charging capability increased from 7.4kW to 11kW and can be specified to broadly suit customer tastes.

Making its debut at last weekend’s 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race, the XM Label arrives in response to a model restructure (presumably due to slow sales as a result of its high price and polarising looks) that brings “a new level of personalisation and equipment offering while being positioned at a new price point,” according to BMW.

No-cost personalisation elements include exterior paint, upholstery combinations, fascia, 23-inch alloy wheels, M Compound brakes and more.

Frozen Tanzanite Blue joins the range of exterior colour choices that also include Mineral White, Marina Bay Blue, Cape York Green, Black Sapphire, Carbon Black, Toronto Red, Isle of Man Green, Sao Paolo Yellow and Dravit Grey.

New merino leather upholstery hues comprise Night Blue with Vintage Leather, Black with Vintage Leather, Silverstone II while Silverstone II with Vintage Leather, Deep Lagoon with Vintage Leather, Sakhir Orange and Black are carried over.

The standard M ‘Carbon Fibre’ interior trim can be switched for M ‘Carbon Fibre’ signature at no cost.

Under the muscular skin, the XM Label integrates a higher on-board charging capability, rising from 7.4kW to 11kW, meaning it now takes two hours and 45 minutes to charge the XM Label from zero to 100 per cent via AC charging – a reduction of more than one hour and 15 minutes compared with the previous model.
