New models - Mercedes-AMG - A45 - Edition RMercedes-AMG A-Class Edition Rs revealedPrice changes, and new Edition Rs, announced for Mercedes-AMG A-Class range28 Jul 2025 By MATT BROGAN MERCEDES-AMG Australia has introduced five feature-enhanced versions of its AMG A-Class range accompanied by a rejigged pricing schedule that sees some limited editions drop in price compared to existing models while others are at a premium.
Available now are Edition R versions of the AMG A 35 Hatch, Sedan and AMG CLA 35 Coupe and Edition R+ versions of the AMG A 45 S Hatch and AMG CLA 45 S Coupe.
Essentially all AMG A 35 Edition R prices have been trimmed while AMG A 45 Edition R+ prices rise.
The limited editions kick-off point for the AMG A 35 Edition R Hatch is reduced by $1700 to $86,200 excluding on-road costs when compared with the non-Edition R version, while the top of the range AMG CLA 45 S R+ Coupe goes up by $2800 to $129,300 excluding on-road costs with price variances in between and model dependent.
For reference, the difference between AMG A 35 and the AMG A 45 S regardless of body type is in the calibration with the former ranked in “hot hatch” territory and the latter in the “hyper hatch” zone with more power and sharper, track-focused dynamics.
Both are equipped with Mercedes’ 4Matic all-wheel drive and a 2.0-litre turbocharged MHEV-assisted petrol engine (hand built in the case of the ‘45’) driving through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission on the 35 and an eight-speed DCT on the 45.
With more turbo boost, the 45 is tuned to 310kW/500Nm while the 35 is tuned to 225kW/400Nm, the former gaining a more aggressive appearance, larger wheels and tyres, six-piston front callipers, firmer suspension, quicker steering and “go faster” aero aids.
It is also more generously equipped inside and has quad exhaust tips over the 35’s dual outlets.
In hard numbers, the 45 clocks a claimed 3.9 seconds for the 0-100km/h sprint and a v-max of 270km/h while the 35 does the same sprint in 4.7 seconds and runs out of puff at 250km/h.
It is the debut of Edition R models on the AMG 35 A-Class and CLA-Class models, while Edition R+ is introduced exclusively on the 45 S variants of both.
They follow Edition R versions of the C 43 and GLC 43 to deliver high performance-focused choices to the compact class for the first time, Mercedes-AMG saying, “These models deliver distinctive styling and targeted equipment designed to highlight each vehicle’s dynamic character”.
The Edition R 35’s specification has been selectively streamlined to emphasise dynamic equipment and design elements with a distinctive package that includes the AMG Aerodynamics Package, 19-inch black AMG alloy wheels, and red brake callipers, while the interior is appointed with Artico/Microcut upholstery with red contrast topstitching and AMG aluminium trim.
The Edition R+ 45s also feature a streamlined specification with added performance features that, over and above the 35 models, includes AMG Performance Seats and, for the first time on the CLA 45 S, an AMG fixed rear wing for a bold motorsport-inspired look.
